Over the past three weeks, riots have erupted throughout many major American cities, in response to what they perceive as police brutality against the African American community. This comes in the wake of the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and Rayshaud Brooks. The most extreme case of these riots now taking place in Seattle, where six blocks have been conquered by protestors in an area they call CHAZ (Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone). Police were forced to abandon the East Precinct after the protests had become beyond their control.

In an interview with an anonymous Seattle Antifa member during a video chat with SexyNetwork News, he said, "This isn't about rioting, or looting, this is about creating a safe space for the African American community. By that, we mean a place where police won't be to harm anybody. This is a secession, this is a Civil War, because the United States is still dependent on their current police force."
Antifa members are not alone on wanting to abolish the police force. Other examples include New York Times author Mariame Kaba, who wrote an article stating, "Yes, We Mean Literally Abolish the Police". Kaba stated, "Enough. We can’t reform the police. The only way to diminish police violence is to reduce contact between the public and the police."
However, the odds of a successful secession are practically zero, and it is likely President Trump will have the National Guard restore order to CHAZ.
